Kitchen faucet installation usually begins with checking the existing setup, isolating the water, removing the old fixture, and confirming that the new faucet fits. The final checks matter as much as the installation because small leaks can appear only when the handle, sprayer, and supply lines are used.
The Initial Inspection
The first review typically covers the sink or countertop holes, faucet type, shutoff valves, supply lines, mounting area, and access inside the cabinet. The provider may compare the new faucet instructions with the existing arrangement. This is when incompatible hole spacing, damaged surfaces, or extra components should be identified.
Removing the Existing Faucet
Water is shut off before the supply connections are loosened. The old faucet is detached from below, and the mounting area is cleaned and examined. If the old hardware is corroded or stuck, removal may require care to avoid damaging the sink or connected plumbing.
Fitting the New Fixture
The new faucet is positioned with the correct gasket, mounting hardware, and any required deck plate. The mounting assembly must be secure without distorting the sink or countertop. A pull-down hose, side sprayer, filter connection, or control module must be routed according to the product instructions.
Connecting and Testing
Supply lines are connected to the correct valves, and the shutoffs are opened gradually. The provider checks the base, connections, hose movement, and faucet operation. Hot and cold orientation, spray selection, handle control, and clearance under the cabinet are all worth testing before the work is considered complete.
The Leak and Function Check
A careful final check includes looking for slow seepage after the faucet has run, not just immediately after the valves are opened. The cabinet should remain dry while the faucet is operated in different positions. The area around the mounting base should also be checked for movement or water entering the sink deck.
What to Confirm Before the Visit Ends
Keep the product instructions and note any care requirements, filter changes, or special controls. Ask what was replaced, whether the shutoff valves or supply lines showed concerns, and what to watch for after use. If the sink deck or valve condition limited the installation, that should be explained before the provider leaves.
